Throne and Games - The Last Laugh Friday April 26 2019 at 7:30 PM

The Improv Centre
× A lonely Queen sits atop the Iron Throne, but her kingdom is under threat from all sides. The final fight between the Lannisters, Starks and Targaryans is about to go down and everyone will probably die - die laughing that is. Throne and Games – The Last Laugh is the final installment in VTS’ parody trilogy that started in 2015.

Loosely based on HBO’s popular TV series, this improv laugh-letting features myriad unexpected plot twists - all suggested by the audience. No two performances can ever be the same because of this key element. Like its TV inspiration, the audience has no idea what to expect next, and, neither do the cast. VTS improvisers are master actors – creating the plot line, developing characters and dialogue all on the spot based on audience involvement and suggestions. It’s this unpredictability that adds to the comedy of every performance. Which of the characters will have the last laugh? Who knows? You’ll have to come and see for yourself to find out.

Intensive - Grounded W/ Lauren McGibbon Sunday April 28 2019 at 10:00 AM

The Improv Centre (Workshops)
× Intensive - Grounded With Lauren McGibbon
Teacher: Lauren McGibbon

Time: 10am to 4pm

Showcase: 6:15pm – 7:00pm

Location: Improv Centre Theatre

Pre-Req: This is a class for experienced improv students who have a strong, consistent understanding of improv basics and scene work. Students MUST be graduates of the ICI Core program or Rookie League. If you are unsure if this class would be a good fit for you, please contact Rachelle Goulter at outreach@vtsl.com. Special permission to take this class may be given on a case by case basis.

Description: Often times we improvisers are given the note to be grounded in our character and our scenes, but what does that even mean? Lauren McGibbon will introduce you to techniques and exercises learned through 12 plus years of improv and acting training to break down the nerves, get connected to your breath, enhance your voice, set an intention, be bold in your choices and perform in a whole new way.
The day starts with a crash course in breath and vocal technique to ensure you are connected to your instrument. Followed by classic acting warm ups and exercises from Chekhov, Stanislavsky, Meisner and more. By the afternoon students will be set up to learn a long form format that challenges improvises to bring realism to the absurd.
Every improviser brings their own personalities and experiences to the stage. This intensive will show each student how to perform with authenticity, honesty and bravery.
