The Love of Your Life – an Improvised True Romance Saturday February 8 2020 at 7:30 PM

The Improv Centre
× Developed former Artistic Director and current ensemble member Denise Jones, The Love of Your Life – An Improvised True Romance premiered at the 2019 Fringe Festival where it played to packed houses. The show is a witty and romantic look at one real couple’s relationship as revealed through interviews and interpreted by VTS improvisers. An actual couple from the audience joins the cast on stage for the show. During the first half, they are interviewed by the host. The cast, utilizing the information given by the couple, re-create some key moments in their life up to the present time. The second half of the show takes what has been learned about the couple, infuses that with suggestions from the audience and projects what the future will hold for them in a series of improvised scenarios. This show will touch both your heart and your funny bone.

Please note that this show is suitable for 8 years and over, as we unfortunately cannot accomodate children under the age of 8, including toddlers and infants.

× Relying on razor-sharp wit and lightning-fast reflexes, two teams of performers are pit against each other in competitive improv matches. Using audience suggestions to fuel scenes, teams must create totally improvised situations on the spot.

Each TheatreSports® match is overseen by a referee. More than just a whimsical host, the ref will slap the improvisers with penalties & jabs, or reward them with bonuses as he sees fit. And round after grueling round, the audience votes for the best scenes & the sharpest improv. THEATRESPORTS® is high-action short form improv full of comic vengeance!

× Are you a grown-up? If you are, join us late Saturday nights for The Late Show – Adults Only Comedy. This show takes the furry hand-cuffs off our improvisers to present edgy, uncensored improv comedy. With the aid of audience suggestions, our quick-witted improvisers create scenarios that explore mature themes, content and language. You never know how far this show will go and the audience are willing accomplices. This is not a show for the faint of heart, those with delicate sensibilities or anyone under the age of 19.

This drop in class is a feel good, super supportive, non-competitive place to JUST PLAY. Under the joyful direction of Clare Filipow, you will keep the YES AND flowing in your life. This 90 minute class is perfect for students who love to do improv for FUN.

Keep your Spontaneity skills growing, meet new people, play improv games and laugh...a lot.

Pre-Req: For ages 18+. Completion of ICI Spontaneity or past improv basics training at any school or permission from the ICI Co-ordinator.

Cost: $15
Time: Multiple Sundays a month from 5:30pm to 7pm

Rookie Night Sunday February 9 2020 at 7:30 PM

× Vancouver TheatreSports League's Rookie Night puts our young improvisers to the test in front of a hungry crowd. They may just be the future stars of tomorrow. This 105 minute performance of improv will showcase the talent of these new players and prepare them for the bright lights of mainstage. The first half of a Rookie League show consists of traditional, TheatreSports short-form ‘games’ or short vignettes. In the second half, the improvisers explore longer forms of linked improvised scenes that tell a complete story.

Audition Techniques with Graeme Duffy Monday February 10 2020 at 7:00 PM

× Title: Audition Techniques

Teacher: Graeme Duffy

Description: This three week class is for those who are actively auditioning and want to up their audition game, or for those who are seriously interested in starting to audition. Instructor Graeme Duffy will demystify the audition experience by sharing the audition secrets that have led to him booking 100+ credits on major film, TV and commercial projects. During the class, Graeme will coach students through exercises to bring out the best in them and their work. He will give you the skills to walk into any audition room prepared and confident.

This three week class meets Mondays from 7pm till 10pm . If you are unsure if this class if for you, you are welcome to audit any acting class. If you like the process, you are welcome to book in for a future class. Contact the ICI Coordinator, Rachelle, at outreach@vtsl.com for more information.

Pre-reqs: Strong interest in developing current acting skills. Students must be responsible, professional and open to feedback.

Join us Thursday nights at 9:15 as our improvisers ‘match up’ to turn the good, the bad and the ludicrous of Vancouver’s dating scene into 60 minutes of side-splitting laughter. Don’t have a date? No problem! Come anyway, you might meet your perfect match at the show. There’s ‘Plenty of Laughs’ to be had by all. This is one instance when swiping right ensures a good time.
